About the event

Building from the introductory courses, we are pleased to offer a weekend of advanced concussion management with Katherine Forch and Dr Olivia Galea.

Ideal for clinicians who have attended a previous Inner Level workshop, and want to progress their clinical reasoning and skills.

The weekend will explore the mechanisms underlying the clinical presentation of individuals with persistent post-concussion symptoms in the context of the musculoskeletal, sensorimotor and autonomic regulatory systems.

Objective assessment of recovery, and identification of impairments as prognostic factors will be discussed, as well as how to prioritise and structure an assessment. Complex case-based discussions, and progression of assessment and treatment techniques will be covered in the context of the rapidly evolving evidence base.

Spend a weekend with two of New Zealand's most experienced concussion physiotherapists, for a deep dive into managing these fascinating injuries.

Hosted by Axis Sports Medicine Specialists.

Places are limited.

Cost: $595 incl GST

Presenter bio:

Katherine is the People Lead for the rehabilitation team at Axis Sports Medicine Specialists. She has been part of their concussion team since it began in 2016. She has taught concussion workshops since 2018 to over 400 health professionals around NZ.

Through Inner Level Katherine consults independently, providing baseline assessment and management for the All Blacks and Blues franchises, and conducts education sessions for organisations such as NZR, HPSNZ,  and the Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians.

She also lectures at AUT in the undergraduate physiotherapy programme and guest lectures on the PGDip Musculoskeletal programme. She is currently completing her PhD with the support of a fully funded Career Development Award Fellowship from the Health Research Council of NZ.

Katherine is often involved with complex cases and enjoys the challenges that these bring.

Dr Olivia Galea is a Lecturer at the University of Otago with over 20 years’ experience as a clinician and more recently scientist. Dr Galea’s research addresses how concussion phenotypes can be identified post-injury to support effective and timely treatment. Her research has also challenged the use of symptoms to inform determination of clinical recovery.
